Reflecting, Sharing, Learning

Yesterday’s Visions: Warren Manning Master Plan 1925 is a slide lecture by Steven A Brown and Beth Whitlock on April 15, 2018 at Athens-Clarke County Library, Athens Georgia. The program was sponsored by the Athens Historical Society, the ACCL Heritage Room and the Hargrett Library at the University of Georgia. The Warren Manning Master City Plan for Athens is discussed, illustrated by photos comparing location around Athens from the 1920s and the present.

As part of Black History Month 2018, Athens-Clarke County Library presents Lt Flipper’s Trial, an original play about the first African American graduate of West Point. This play dramatizes his 1881 court martial and talks about the controversy about whether Lt. Flipper was treated fairly before, during and after the trial.

The play is performed by its author, Bob Rogers, a former U.S. Army Captain and combat leader during the Vietnam War. Today, he writes historical fiction and speaks to fulfill his goal of “entertaining to educate.” During and after his thirty-three year sojourn at IBM, Bob created curricula and taught gratis computer classes for the young and senior citizens.
