On January 28 at the UGA Special Collections Library, Charlotte Thomas Marshall was awarded the prestigious Augustus Longstreet Hull Award by the Athens Historical Society. She is a lifelong scholar and student of Athens history, and is widely known as the go-to for all questions Athens-history related. Charlotte is the fourth recipient of the award – the first 2 being Hull himself and Patricia Irwin Cooper, both posthumously, and the third being Mary Bondurant Warren. Speaking about her accomplishments were her friends Gary Doster, Milton Leathers, and Theresa Flynn. The Athens Historical Society is honored to have Charlotte accept this award.
The Athens Historical Society has created the Augustus Longstreet Hull Award as a way to publicly recognize and honor those individuals whose long and extraordinary service to our organization and the community at large has significantly impacted the study and recordation of the history of Athens, Georgia, and its surrounding area. In bringing attention to those who have helped preserve the historical record of the Classic City and the surrounding counties, we hope to generate interest in the general public for the mission of the Athens Historical Society, as well as the accomplishments of those receiving the award.
