About the Foundation

The Athens-Clarke County Foundation was established in 1995 to:

  • Provide long-term financial support for the acquisition of up-to-date materials in all formats, keeping apace with changing technologies and trends.
  • Increase public awareness of library needs for continuous improvement of library services.
  • Promote library contributions which enrich and improve the quality of life in our community.

The Athens-Clarke County Library Foundation is a tax exempt 501c3 non-profit organization overseen by a twelve person Endowment Board of Trustees whose members serve for three years.

Libraries exist through public funding, but private gifts and community support allow them to flourish.
