Firewalking is not something we can normally see in Athens, GA. Firewalking involves walking with bare feet across a level bed of hot glowing coals, the remnants of a wood fire.
Because it is often touted as a "mind over matter" exercise, using special mental powers, physicist Dr. John Campbell puts his own feet to the fire to prove it's only the physical laws of nature that allow people to painlessly and safely walk on coals.
Campbell's talk at the UGA Physics Department, "The Art and Science of Firewalking" was attended by well over 100 visitors, 92 of whom actually braved the coals to walk on "fire" after the lecture. Campbell is professor emeritus from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ.
